Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium Funding

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools to help raise pupil attainment and ensure every child has equal opportunities to thrive. At Hotwells Primary School, we are committed to providing an education full of opportunities that will prepare all pupils for their next stage in education and beyond, with a positive attitude and an ambition to be the best they can possibly be. We aim to encourage and develop every child’s personality, talents, and abilities to the full, using this funding to carefully allocate resources and targeted support.

Important Update: September 2026 Free School Meals Changes

From September 2026, eligibility for Free School Meals (FSM) in England has expanded and split into two distinct categories for families receiving Universal Credit:

  • Targeted Free School Meals

    • Eligibility: Households on Universal Credit with net annual earnings of £7,400 or less (before benefits).

    • Benefits: Your child receives daily free school meals and triggers crucial Pupil Premium funding for Hotwells Primary School, as well as access to additional holiday activities and support.

  • Expanded Free School Meals

    • Eligibility: Households on Universal Credit with net annual earnings above £7,400.

    • Benefits: Your child receives daily free school meals. (Note: This category does not trigger additional Pupil Premium funding for the school).

Why Applying Matters

Because Targeted FSM unlocks essential extra funding (Pupil Premium) directly for Hotwells Primary School, we warmly encourage all families on Universal Credit to check their eligibility - even if your child is in Reception, Year 1, or Year 2 and already receives a universal free meal.

Checking and applying takes just a few moments and directly supports our school community.
